On a recent artilce in the Daily Telegraph, they announced that a UK plumber has set a world record for the fastest mobility scooter. He had modified his old mobility scooter which was believed to be a Pride Celebrity which is no longer maufactured. The Plumber, s31 years old, named Colin Furze spent 3 months to modifying his scooter and installed a 125cc lump from a motorcycle engine. This has allowed the scooter to reach a speed of up to 69mph. The scooter does about 10mpg so is not the most cost effecient method of transport and probably not good for the pollution but who cares he has made himself into the world records.

Colin Furze is planning on taking his world record holding mobility scooter to Santa Pod Raceway in Northants and hoping to gain an official place in the Guinness Book of Records.

“I will be wearing full leathers and a crash helmet for the record attempt,” he said. “My aim is to hit 70mph – that would make me really happy.”
